ESSAY TIME: Musou Orochi

So now that we've finally got the English version of Musou Orochi out, I can tell what exactly is going on with Gongji there, and even have a little time-line for him! It happens something like this:

- Orochi brings both canons into his world
- Orochi incarcerates Sun Jian and forces the ruling family of Wu into servitude. Each time they put down an uprising, Orochi releases another Wu prisoner (i.e. he unlocks another general).
- Boyan, Xingba, and Gongji are stranded together and form a resistance movement of their own.
- Boyan is defeated by Sun Ce and the Wu army, and isolated.
- Xingba and Gongji escape and team up with Xing Cai for much lulz.
- Xing Cai is defeated by Sun Ce and the Wu army. From here, I'm assuming Xing Cai goes onto her part in the Shu story, but Gongji and Xingba are split up.
- Nobunaga sends Sakon Shima to induce Sun Ce to revolt.
- Nobunaga and Mitsuhide Akechi find and rescue Boyan. He joins them.
- Xingba finds Nagamasa Azai and Oichi and joins them. Later, Cao Pi defeats them and adds them to his ranks.
- Gongji finds and joins Nobunaga.
- Gongji starts hitting on Okuni. this is ttly important, shut up
- Everyone opposes Orochi, mostly thanks to Nobunaga's manipulations.

So is this a canon update? Not really! Orochi happens outside of canon - basically, it's an AU cross-over. We know this, because after Orochi is defeated in each story no one goes back home. They're stuck in his world. Therefore, AU. Which is to say, if any SW chars happened to come to camp, Gongji would have simliar reactions to them, but wouldn't know them.

But for the meat of the essay, this is what we can tell about Gongji from Orochi (now that I finally have canon interactions for him with unmarried women :o):

Gongji is topped by dominant girls. This is something we already knew. And by 'dominant', what I mean is 'in charge, but not pushy'. His reaction to Xing Cai was basically "We better do what she says, Xingba, or she's gonna scold us :|b", but his reaction to Ina (who is kinda a ball-buster) yelling at him was "Geez, calm the hell down". In other words, subtle (or not-so-subtle) manipulation, or even handing down orders is fine with him, but barking or nagging will cause him to get defensive or rebellious.

Gongji is fairly diplomatic. When he has to be. The best example of this is when he and Xingba are hiding out with Xing Cai - Xingba loudly proclaims that he won't take orders from a woman, upon which Gongji intercedes and (fairly calmly for him) tells him it's the best thing to do and to stop bitching.

Gongji had no problems taking orders from a woman. And, in fact, seemed quite happy to do so. DRAW YOUR OWN CONCLUSIONS THERE.

Gongji apparently doesn't see a problem with spending large amounts of money on a girl, if that's what she wants. This one made me kinda laugh. Okuni asked him what he'd do with the spoils from one of the missions against Dong Zhuo, to which he replied that he'd take her away on a private vacation. Apparently, Okuni found this acceptable, as she makes no big secret of kind of being a teensy bit of a golddigger. :|b But I think the bigger thing to take away isn't that he's getting taken by a golddigger, but that he knowingly and freely offered his paycheck to her without *worrying* that he was getting taken by a golddigger.

In other words, he knew what he was doing.

Which brings us to the stuff with Gongji and Okuni!

Aside from the raids on Dong Zhuo, which was pretty much a stroke of brilliance on Gongji's part such as it were, wtf guy, there are a couple instances with them that makes me think heavily that there's something going on there. Okuni gains a stat bonus if you fight her with Gongji, because 'her opponent is so handsome' (actual status message wtf Koei). She greets him by name if she's 'struggling' and you bring him down to help her (this is the only time I've ever seen this happen - any other time, the char you just rescued will give you a generic greeting or expression of gratitude). He even has a little interaction with her the first time he shows up in the Sengoku story, pretty clearly trying to strike up a conversation (it was a little awkward, but cute :3).

So what we can draw from this is that the girls he likes best are those who can boss him around gently, and usually with feminine charms as opposed to blunt force. Which. Uhh. I kinda figured was the case, but hey, now I have canon for it! Awesome! \o/

As far as there being any relationship with Okuni in my playing, like I said before - the game is AU, which means I won't be referring to it in play. Gongji already knows who Da Ji is because of the incident Halloween before last, but other than that, doesn't know any of the SW chars. I'm also assuming that if any of the Sengoku chars came to camp, he'd have similar reactions to them as in the game. And if anyone wants to app Okuni, well - more power to you! \o/ I will smack a bitch if we get an Okuni but not a Hideyoshi or Nene or Nagamasa or Oichi first though OKAY

I'm probably missing something, but that's all I can think of at the moment!
